Copie de : LIVING ECOLOGICALLY
What architectures for a sustainable city?

While the global ecological and economic crisis is forcing us to change our living habits, the aim of this exhibition is to encourage businesses and users, and in particular young people, to join together in taking on this challenge.

Following an overview of the actions, works and projects that have made a mark on ecological thought over the last century, it puts a spotlight on the holistic (global and multidisciplinary) approach leading to a habitat that is founded in a neighbourhood that is socially just, ecologically sustainable and economically viable. From Wright to Murcutt, about twenty projects, with the same ethics but with varying visual aesthetics, providing a panorama in time and space, going from low-tech to high-tech. The sequence devoted to the French approach pays tribute to ten pioneers before focusing on intermediate housing providing an eco-responsible alternative to the detached house. Long-term actions are represented by an international invitation for ideas and a competition for students organised by the Cité. The eco-housing projects currently ongoing and the environmental creations in the tertiary sector that close the exhibition were chosen to encourage the visitor to take action at his level. In between sequences on a theme, there are six "lounges" providing a forum for scientists and actors involved in construction. An eco-library provides the visitor with works and information on eco-responsible building works. Raising awareness and training for everyone: children in the "Stop throwing it away" educational workshop; users in the open lectures; businesses through seminars organised on a theme, conferences, round table discussions and films. Thanks to numerous associated events since spring 2008, this exhibition already has an influence throughout the country in encouraging the exchange of ideas.

Exhibition presented by the Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine / French Institute of architecture, with the support of Bouygues Immobilier, EDF Foundation, Saint-Gobain
