17 Dec 2009 - 31 Jan 2010 Pierre Soulages in his museum An RCR Arquitectes experience
Running along side the retrospective of the work of Pierre Soulages at the Pompidou centre (from October 2009), the Cité will be displaying a preview of the architectural project designed by the Catalan agency RCR Arquitectes for the future Pierre Soulages museum in Rodez.
In the entrance hall, visitors to the Cité will discover a large scale model of the project completely free of charge. It is set against a backdrop designed by architects at the RCR and accompanied by a highly original graphic and audiovisual display.
In addition to the exhibition, there will be a discussion group bringing together the project’s main players: Pierre Soulages, the RCR and representatives of the regional councils involved in the development of the project: the Communauté d’agglomération du Grand Rodez, the Midi Pyrénées Region, etc.…
The Cité museum is also involved in the exhibition, with a Pierre Soulages trail within the permanent collections. This trail is composed of works selected by the artist himself from the permanent collections:
- Conques church, represented in the exhibition by a 1:1000 scale replica with painted tympanum and a virtual visit of the whole monument - gallery of casts;
- the crypt at Tavant church, displayed as a full, 3D, 1:1000 scale replica complete with frescos - gallery of wall paintings;
- the archway at the Abbey at Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe, also as a 1:1000 scale, 3D replica with frescos - Library.
Exhibitions designed by the Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine, in partnership with the Soulages Rodez museum curators and the Communauté d’agglomération du Grand Rodez.
