![]() INTRODUCTION The aim of the Library and Archive Centre on 20th century architecture is to collect a unique documentation on contemporary architecture and make it available to the public. They are both open to the public, and their respective collections enable amateur readers, students or professionals to have access to a wide range of documents in this field. The free-access Library is open to everyone. It contains an important collection of books, periodicals, and audio-visual and electronic documents covering architecture and its related fields (landscapes and gardens, construction, interior architecture and design, town planning) from 1870 to the present. The Archive Centre, specialised in 20th century architecture (located outside the Palais de Chaillot), is only open by appointment. It contains numerous archive collections of French 20th century architects, thus forming what is currently the main resource centre of the Archives Service of France in this field. It is equipped with a specific application, Archi Webture, a database presenting all the collections it possesses, which also makes it possible to consult the inventories and carry out research. The documentation portal of the City of Architecture and National Heritage , accessible from this page, facilitates research on all the references in the library catalogue the periodicals database, the audio-visual documents database, the Archirès database, and the Internet sites database, as well as the main fields of presentations of the collections kept at the Archives Centre (to consult the inventories, go directly to ArchiWebture). The portal also places directly on line documents of vital importance, such as the four collections of digitised periodicals (La Revue générale d'architecture, digitised from 1840 to 1888 ; La construction moderne, digitised from 1885 to 1936 ; L'architecture, digitised from 1889 to 1936 ; and L'architecte, digitised from 1906 to 1935), as well as documentary files. |
